Immune Thrombocytopenia

Must not donate if:
Associated with malignancy

Discretionary

If underlying cause of thrombocytopenia is not a contraindication, accept.  Refer to relevant DSG entry. Refer to designated clinical support officer if further advice required.

If treated with immunoglobulin:
Immunoglobulin Therapy
Transfusion
Malignancy
 

If treated with plasma exchange:
Transfusion


If treated with immunosuppressive therapy:
Immunosuppression


If treated with splenectomy:
Splenectomy
Transfusion

Additional Information

Immune thrombocytopenia can be associated with malignancies, especially haematological malignancies such as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
