Blood Component Request & Allocation Process (March 2022)

Process map for non-novel component code requests

Guidelines for the Blood Transfusion Services in the UK component request and allocation process

Chapter 8 of the Red Book includes a section on the introduction of novel components, accompanied by a flow chart to indicate the steps to be taken.  However, when considering the request process for new component codes that are not necessarily considered to be ‘novel’, and their subsequent qualification activities, colleagues from individual Blood Transfusion Services felt that we would benefit from an in-depth process map that provides clarity on roles and responsibilities, along with more details of actions to be taken.

A set of documents has been produced, that outline the actions taken by Change Management and I.T. support teams within the individual services, in conjunction with the JPAC Standing Advisory Committee on Blood Components and the Standing Advisory Committee on Information Technology.

JPAC feel that the documents will be a useful addition to the JPAC website Document Library, whereby individual Services could access them and use them as a guide when managing qualification activities that require the use of new component codes.
